A Typical School Day
At LHA, students begin the school day in their designated mixed aged homerooms. (K/1st, 2/3rd, 4th-6th, 7th+). They study history, geography, science, grammar, literature, writing, vocabulary, spelling, art, music, and other subjects with their homeroom depending on the day, with breaks for morning recess, mid-day lunch and recess, and an afternoon recess before dismissal.
Younger elementary students stay with their homeroom teacher for mathematics. Upper elementary, middle and high school students leave their homerooms to receive math instruction from LHA's math teacher while other grades stay for even smaller group instruction. For example, 6th and 7th grade students may go to math while 8th and 9th grade students stay in homeroom for literature.
*Students at LHA are grouped for key subjects such as reading, math and writing, based on ability level, not on grade level, in order to ensure each student receives the instruction that is just right for him or her.
An elementary student at LHA also enjoys scheduled choice time throughout the day or has the opportunity for choice time after her work or tasks have been completed. During choice time, students can peruse books in the library, create in the craft area, grab a friend for a board game, build and play with educational toys in the choice area, or engage in an activity with materials brought from home.
Days off campus are structured by parents and students complete a variety of LHA given assignments based on age and/or grade level.
